Prior Authorization Process

Before you get a service or go to some dental appointments, we have to make sure that you need the service and that it is medically right for you. This is called prior authorization. This process is sometimes also called pre-authorization, prior approval, or pre-certification. To do this, we look at your medical history and information from your dentist, doctor, or other health care providers. Then we will decide if that service can help you. We use rules and guidelines to make these decisions. Prior authorization isn't a promise your dental or health insurance or plan will cover the cost.

You may contact our Member Hotline to ask about the status of prior authorization requests. We can also help you learn more about the prior authorization process. The Dentist's Prior Authorization Process page explains all that your dentist needs to know about dental benefits that need prior authorization.
